Buying a 43-Inch TV: What Matters Beyond the Sale Price

By BlackFriday.us Editorial Team

A 43-inch television can be a useful choice for a bedroom, smaller living area or a cabinet that limits screen size. Start with the space and the way you watch, then compare the exact TV. A large advertised discount does not tell you whether its connections, stand or features fit your plans.

This is a shopping checklist based on product documentation and comparison questions. We have not conducted hands-on picture-quality tests of the TVs discussed. BlackFriday.us may earn a commission from qualifying purchases through affiliate links.

Measure the cabinet and the stand, not just the screen

The screen-size label describes the diagonal; it is not the overall width of the television. Check the manufacturer's dimensions with the stand attached, the distance between the feet, and the depth your furniture allows. Include the ventilation space required by the manual.

For perspective, the visible rectangle of a hypothetical 43-inch, 16:9 screen is approximately 37.5 inches wide and 21.1 inches tall. That calculation excludes the frame, stand and any rounding in the marketed screen size. It is a planning aid, never a substitute for the exact model's dimensions.

If mounting the TV, confirm its mounting pattern, weight and the bracket's compatibility. Budget for the bracket and installation if needed. A suitable screen size does not establish that a particular wall or mount is suitable.

Match the complete model number

Two 43-inch TVs from the same brand can belong to different series or generations. Compare the full model code, region and condition. An open-box listing and a new retail unit are different purchases even when the screen size matches.

Roku's official product-information guide shows where to find a model number and separates its TV families and documentation. Use documentation for the exact model; do not transfer a larger TV's specifications or a previous generation's review to the one in your cart.

Decide what the TV needs to do

  • Streaming and everyday viewing: check that the apps you use are supported and whether you need an external streaming device. Subscription costs are separate from the TV price.
  • Gaming: confirm supported resolution and refresh rate at the input you will use, plus any variable-refresh or low-latency features you require. A 4K label alone does not establish high-refresh gaming support.
  • A bright room or wide seating: consult reliable measurements or see the exact TV in person where possible. Resolution and HDR compatibility alone do not establish brightness, reflections or viewing-angle performance.
  • A second room: think about remote controls, headphone options and the devices already available before paying for extras.

For a hypothetical shopper who streams shows and has no high-refresh gaming requirement, paying more for a gaming feature may offer little benefit. For someone whose console setup requires that feature, its absence can make the cheaper TV the wrong purchase. The useful comparison starts with those needs.

Count connections before checkout

Write down your console, streaming device, cable box and soundbar. Match that list to the available HDMI inputs and the connections your audio equipment needs. If a soundbar uses an ARC or eARC connection, check the designated port and compatibility with both devices. Do not assume every HDMI input has the same capabilities.

Also check how you will connect to the internet and whether the package includes the remote, stand hardware and any cable you need. Buying an adapter or cable later can change the effective price.

Compare the delivered price and return terms

Use the current price of the matching model and condition, then add shipping, applicable tax and necessary accessories. For a hypothetical example, a $180 TV plus a $25 required accessory costs $205 before shipping and tax. A $195 alternative that already meets the same requirements could cost less overall. These figures illustrate the calculation; they are not current retailer offers.

Read the seller's delivery, damage-reporting, return and warranty terms before buying. Check whether a return incurs shipping or other charges and keep the packaging if required. A crossed-out price does not establish the lowest current price or a historical low.

Your five-minute comparison sheet

  1. Record the exact model, condition, stand dimensions and cabinet measurements.
  2. List the viewing and gaming features you actually require.
  3. Count the devices and identify the ports each needs.
  4. Compare total delivered cost with equivalent models and configurations.
  5. Confirm return and warranty terms before placing the order.
