SEASONAL GUIDE

Black Friday vs. Cyber Monday: What Typically Goes on Sale

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are no longer completely separate shopping events. Many retailers now launch promotions well before Thanksgiving weekend and continue them through Cyber Monday or beyond. Even so, the two labels can still signal different promotional emphasis.

Black Friday tends to be broader

Black Friday promotions commonly span electronics, televisions, appliances, tools, toys, apparel, home goods, outdoor products, and storewide offers. Both online and physical retailers participate, and many advertised offers begin before Friday itself.

Cyber Monday remains strongly associated with online shopping

Cyber Monday developed as an online-focused event and still tends to emphasize e-commerce promotions. Computers, accessories, software, electronics, apparel, beauty, and other easy-to-ship categories often receive substantial attention. In practice, many retailers simply extend or modify Black Friday promotions rather than starting from scratch.

Will the price be lower on Cyber Monday?

Sometimes, but there is no dependable rule that Cyber Monday will beat Black Friday on the same item. A retailer may lower the price further, extend the same offer, replace it with a different bundle, or end the promotion entirely. Inventory can also disappear before Monday.

When buying on Black Friday makes sense

If the item is a specific model you want, the price is already unusually strong, inventory appears limited, and the retailer has acceptable return terms, waiting solely for the possibility of a slightly lower Cyber Monday price can add risk without guaranteeing a better outcome.

When waiting can make sense

Waiting may be reasonable when you are flexible about the exact model or retailer, when several comparable products are available, or when the existing discount is ordinary rather than exceptional. Cyber Monday can create new options even when it does not improve the exact Black Friday offer you were watching.

Compare bundles carefully

A Black Friday offer and a Cyber Monday offer may look like the same price while including different gift cards, accessories, warranties, subscription periods, or shipping benefits. Compare the complete package, not just the headline price.

Our approach

BlackFriday.us treats the entire late-November period as a connected deal season. Rather than assuming that one named shopping day is always better, we compare the actual offer available at the time: price, savings, product quality, retailer, availability, and terms.

That approach also fits our year-round philosophy: the calendar matters, but the strength of the individual deal matters more.
